"I am proud to say that in 28 years
in practice I have NEVER docked a tail, other than
for post injury therapeutic reasons. I know I have lost many breeder
clients for this reason, but I feel our principals should always go in
front of profit where the animals welfare is concerned. Ten years ago
I was instrumental in reporting a colleague for docking, was praised
by the Royal College for my actions, only to find that no action would
be taken. My enthusiasm to chase this topic has been dampened as I have
got older and realise that one should fight the battles you can win.
Until the Kennel Club reverse their policy and state that dogs with DOCKED
tails CANNOT be shown (as I believe the German KC has done) then no amount
of legislation will make a difference. Vets who are vetting in at shows
need to have the bottle to challenge EVERY docked dog as to the name
address and full details of the vet concerned who supposedly docked the
dog and if that cannot be produced, prosecute the owner for being in
receipt of an allegedly illegally docked dog. See what happens then."
