"I would like to register myself as a vet in favour of a ban on all
non-therapeutic docking of tails. However if the Kennel Club will insist in
continuing to not support this proposed ban, then docking should continue
strictly and absolutely only by veterinary surgeons with appropriate
certification available to anyone to prove this docking has been done
legally. Heavy penalties should be appropriate for illegal docking.

At the moment two vets locally are docking tails. While this is not to be
encouraged, it is obviously better than some of the botch jobs I have
encountered over the years. The situation needs urgent clarification.

As a OESD Rescue organiser said to me ' an OESD without a tail is like a
ship without a rudder' watching a docked OESD trying to run is a travesty
compared with one running with a tail - poetry in motion."
